Action Research
How is it Action?
Action Genre is one of the most important genres that there is. The protagonist or protagonists are propelled into a series of events that often feature violence, protracted combat, athletic feats, rescues, and frenzied chases. Superheroes, martial arts, and amazing stunts might all be in the works. These new releases are more concerned with the way the story is told than with the plot itself.
Content
Extended fighting is a big factor in action movies because they can create a stressful situation in which they are completely in control and the tension is short-lived. As a result, the entire film provides either short-term exhilaration or short-term tension to the viewer. By creating this kind of short stress it makes the viewers like the movie much better because people tend to like that feeling where you know something will happen but just don't know when it creates excitement.
Example: The Karate Kid (1984). The Final Fight vs Daniel and Johnny. They use extended fighting to create and add tension because the fight was around five minutes and the audience had that tension for that period of time that creates excitement for action movies.
Another big factor in action movies is Violence. Violence is used in action movies to show a typically resourceful hero battling extraordinary odds, such as life-threatening crises, a deadly enemy, or a chase that usually ends with the hero winning. Violence isn't simply employed to make viewers feel gratified and satisfied; it may also be utilized to provoke a variety of other emotions, depending on the plot. Some movies or plays, for example, aim to make you stunned, flinch, or leap back. Others aim to make you feel anxious, jittery, or even ill.
Example: Avengers:Endgame. When they all reunited together to fight Thanos. It created a mix of emotions because there was going to be violence and people already knew it. It made people anxious, stressed because it was a big moment.
The storyline of every action film is the same. Throughout the film, the antagonists (evil guys) always win. But Because something extraordinary happens, the heroes or (good people) always prevail at the final minute. They keep the audience on edge throughout the film until the very end, when something no one expected happened. Also, if the heroes do not prevail, there is always a second movie since in every action movie, the good guys succeed.
Example: Black Widow. The whole movie the antagonist was winning until the last minute where they stopped him. They did this because it keeps the viewers entertained for the whole movie.
Production Techniques
Camera movement is used a lot in action movies because in films, certain camera motions can have a psychological and emotional impact on the audience. These effects can be utilized to enhance the immersion and engagement of a film and adds forward momentum, pace, and intensity, and allows the audience to join in the action.
Sound is really important too in action movies because sound may aid in the creation of emotion and the setting of the film's tone. When two characters are fighting they use a strong sound to indicate to the audience that it is a special, specific moment where we have to fully see to understand its whole concept.
Example: Mad Max uses incredible sound techniques when they get into action.
Marketing
The audience targeted in the action film is a group of young men between the ages of 16 and 25. This is because most action films have a lot of fast-paced sequences, violence, and sexual material, all of which will satisfy this audience's desires. Even though anyone can enjoy these movies because they created excitement which we all like.
Many action movie posters carry guns, fire, explosions, cars because all these indicate Violence which the audience likes because it persuades them to go watch the movie. They also put the whole main characters that will fight against the villains to indicate the relationship between them and the team formed that will defeat the villains.
