Music Marketing Blog Post #2

Claudio Jimenez P-2

The project overall was very challenging for each one of my team members including me. First of all, we got the genre country and that was more challenging because none of us knew nothing about country music and its genre. We were all lost so we started from scratch. As a team we created two case studies about country  music and what companies are in that genre and what artist/bands are famous in its genre. We learned so much about how each artist distributes and market its song and overall we learn about the country genre that  eventually helped us a lot throughout our whole project. I believe the two case studies were our base for the project and thats why we put a lot of effort and research to do each case study.

After the two case studies we decided to brainstorm and plan what was next for our band, this took us so much time because we had to come up with the best distribution plan, marketing plan, and ideas so the band could attract audience. We started little by little, we first came up with our band name which was called "Weston Cowboys" because it is an unusual name and it shows the audience that our music it is country music. Then, we came up with the best ideas where we could distribute our music. We brainstorm and brainstorm and decided to promote our music through Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We used this three applications to distribute our band/music because our targeted audience is around 18-49. Every person that is older than 30 uses Facebook, Twitter all the time and 30 and above uses Instagram. It was perfect to promote our band. We also utilized Spotify, Pandora, YouTube to distribute our music through all social medias.

Then we had to plan on how our band can expand and get more audience. We though a lot and decided to create a Website and Merchandise. By creating a website our fans could check information about us, when we are performing, they could contact us, check our socials, and buy our merchandise. The website was one of the best ideas my team and I came up with. It took us some time to create merchandise because we had to come up with designs that could fit our band and that the audience could like. Merchandise was created to promote our band and to have a deeper relationship with our bands.

Example-

The hardest part of our project was the music video. The production, planning, brainstorm of it was really hard because we had to come up with a music video that could engage audience and that is entertaining to watch. We took a lot of time thinking on what to do but we finally decided to go to a ranch since it matched with our genre. Then, we had to come up with a storyline and come up with the best camera techniques, movements, editing to create the best music video. After a long time we finally created a music video that indeed engaged with audience. During the presentation my team and I were prepared since we talked before and we all knew exactly what we had to do.

Finally, I learned a lot about this project. First of all I learned about country music.  I listened to some amazing songs that I would've never listen too if it wasn't for this project. I learn how difficult and long is the process of creating a band and all you have to do to make it possible. But mainly I learned that hard work pays off and that if you do not stop working you'll be successful. I learned on how to create a storyline, promote music, and most important on how to come up and create the best music video. This project will help me with my Cambridge Portfolio because I know exactly what I have to do and how I can create a video that can attract and entertain people. I learned that there are several factors to create a music video and that it takes a lot of planning and brainstorming.
